The Andromeda is invaded by a mutant species.
Episode Synopsis
Evacuating a dying drift colony, the crew of Andromeda struggles to save the injured inhabitants. As the drift threatens to collapse, Andromeda reports multiple ships are headed their way with weapons deployed. Missiles slam into the drift, and the crew escapes seconds before it explodes. The assailants are identified as the Than, a presumed ally of Andromeda. Meanwhile, Rommie, Beka and Trance work feverishly to stabilize the victims, who are dying quickly. Rommie retrieves the blood results from the lab, revealing the weapons used were biological.
The Than continue attacking Andromeda, and the ship becomes badly damaged. Captain Dylan Hunt commands Tyr to find a hiding place. Tyr locates shelter behind an asteroid, as the rest of the crew attempts to find out how the disease of the victims is transmitted. Exhausted, Beka suddenly collapses, having been infected with the disease. While Trance tends to Beka, the dead begin to rise and move about the corridor.
The corpses begin to attack the helpless crew. Trance stabs one of them with no result. Dylan and Tyr blast them with force lances, again to no avail. Meanwhile, the corpses attempt to clamp their mouths over those of the crew in order to infect them. They surround Trance and breathe into her. When she speaks, she reveals herself as one of the Bokor, an everlasting species that feeds off the bodies of the living in order to survive. Meanwhile, the asteroid that Andromeda was hiding behind is destroyed. The Than are close by.
Suddenly, Dylan realizes the Than are attacking them in order to destroy the Bokor. He orders Andromeda to self-destruct. The countdown begins as Beka falls unconscious. In the meantime, Harper notices that one of the corpses had been electrocuted by the damaged ship, and did not recover. The crew realizes that electrical charges can be used to terminate the Bokor. Dylan and Tyr immediately begin destroying every Bokor in their path. The countdown to self-destruction is halted. As the Than close in, Dylan blasts Bokor Trance with electricity. Seconds later, she awakens as the normal Trance. Dylan demands she find a cure for Beka, who is still infected. As the rest of the crew kill the last of the Bokor, Trance injects Beka with an antidote. Tyr transfers their records to the Than fleet, and order in the Commonwealth is restored.
